Hangouts On Air with YouTube Live

Google Hangouts on Air is a great way to meet the group when you are in different location. To set up a Hangout on Air, you will need to have a G Suite account, which must be linked with your YouTube channel.

Hangouts On Air with YouTube Live

Now you can use YouTube Live to create a Quick event with Hangouts On Air, or a Custom event using an encoder. And also learn how to set up a live stream with YouTube Live.

 

 

Follow the steps listed below to set up Hangouts On Air with YouTube Live:

 

  1. Go to Live Streaming Events in Creator Studio.

  2. Click New live event.

  3. Select Quick (using Google Hangouts On Air).

  4. Give your live stream a title.

  5. Please click Go live now or enter in details to schedule your event for later.

  6. Use Hangouts to broadcast live.



 

Schedule a YouTube Live broadcast

YouTube Live is built-in events scheduling that lets you schedule your event for a future date and time. This feature is similar to Calendar & Google+ integration for Hangouts On Air. Stream now is a simple way to stream. YouTube automatically detects the stream resolution. When you are live, you shall transcode to lower resolutions so all of your fans can enjoy your stream no matter the quality of their Internet.

To go live instantly:

  1. You want to Download and setup your encoder using the Stream Name/Key and Server URL.

For Ex,(Mobile Capture/Webcam/Gameshow/XSplit Gamecaster).

  1. Add the title and description in the BASIC INFO tab and you can also add a custom thumbnail in it representing your event.

  2. Optional: Schedule your next stream time.

  3. If you select the Gaming Category for that you can add a Game title to help people discover your stream.

  4. Set privacy settings to Public, Unlisted, or Private as applicable in your case.

  5. Low Latency is closer to real-time for users.

  6. Maximise Quality provides the smoothest viewing experience for your audience.

  7. If you only have rights to the live show, you check the “Mark archive unlisted when complete” box.

  8. During the live chat, you can remove the archived live event from the search index.

  9. The link can still be shared and embedded. This setting will apply as soon as the live event is completed.

 

When the stream is live

 

Interact with the audience using live chat.

  • You can Share the link across social media platforms using SHARE tool.

  • Keep an eye on the real-time Analytics section.

  • Also, you can monitor the stream in the player, top status bar, and in the Stream Health tab.

 

Also, you can monitor you Manage Live chat

  • Live chat basics is enabled by default and will appear to the right of the video player when your live stream is active. After your live stream ends, viewers will see a replay of live chat where they watch the stream archive. The Live chat module only exists on YouTube watch page, not on any embedded players.
  • Viewers can always choose between two views of live chat, any time.
  • Top chat: This view filters messages such as potential spam to help make chat easier to read and more useful.
  • Live chat: This view is not filtered. It will show all chat messages as they come in.

Viewers are limited to 200 characters and maximum 3 submissions for every 30 seconds. In the event, owners are not subject to the frequency threshold. A viewer cannot post special characters, URLs or HTML tags.

For post in live chat, click into where it says “Say Something” and begin typing. Then, click the send icon .

You can review chat activity in YouTube Analytics. In That "Comments" metric is for live on demand.

 

When the stream is over:

 

Stop sending content from your encoder and that will end your stream.

You can automatically archive the event for up to 12 hours and make it available on the Video Manager for which it is recommended to record a local archive as backup.

 

You can also control who can see the broadcast

When you create a new event, you can select one of the 3 options:

 

  • Public - Anyone can access & see the event.

  • Unlisted - The event is not shown publicly but anyone can join through the link. This is similar to the previous Google+ Hangouts On Air setting.

  • Private - In this mode, Only people you specifically invite can join the event. You can share the event with a domain or group or individual.

 

Access Google+ Hangouts On Air content

In this, you will continue to have access to your recorded event on YouTube. Google+ will have your event available in the read-only format in Activity Log.

Remove activities on Google+

You can delete the following activities from your account, such as:

  1. Posts you’ve shared

  2. Comments you’ve made

  3. Your +1’s on Google+

  4. Your Google+ events

  5. Poll votes

  6. Blocks and mutes

  7. Your +1 activity

 

Note: You can also delete your Google+ profile.
