Google Cloud has introduced a serverless platform which lets you write code without worrying about the underlying infrastructure. You can easily extend your applications with event-driven computing from Google or third-party service integrations. You can even choose to move your serverless workloads to on-premise environments or to the cloud server.


Google Cloud Essential base primitives for all 


Google Cloud Platform has launched Knative, which was created originally by Google and 50 different companies together. It delivers an essential set of components to build and run the serverless applications on Kubernetes. Knative offers features like scale-to-zero, autoscaling, in-cluster builds, and eventing framework for cloud-native applications on Kubernetes. Whether on-premises, in the cloud, or in a third-party data centre, Knative codifies best practices shared by successful real-world Kubernetes-based frameworks. Most importantly, Knative enables developers to focus on writing code without worrying about the “boring but difficult” parts of building, deploying, and managing their application.


Developer-friendly software:


Google Cloud Kubernetes offers a set of components that focuses on solving many mundane but very difficult tasks such as workflows like:


  1. Building applications from source code to container images, 

  2. routing and managing traffic during deployment, 

  3. auto-scaling your workloads, 

  4. Binding running services to the growing ecosystem of event sources. 


Knative recognizes container images as the deployment unit. Therefore, developers can use any language, framework, or idiom they’re familiar with.


Flexibility and control:  


Google Cloud Platform Kubernetes is designed to plug easily into an existing build and continuous integration/ Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) toolchains. Kubernetes is completely focusing  on open-source-first technologies that run anywhere, on any cloud platform, on any infrastructure supported by Kubernetes.

Now you can move the existing workloads wherever you want. This offers extreme flexibility and control.


Run your Serverless workloads on your own terms: 

Kubernetes provides an open Application program interface and a runtime environment which enables you to run your serverless workloads anywhere you choose: this system fully managed on Google Cloud, on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), or on your own Kubernetes cluster. Knative makes it smooth to start with Cloud Run by using Knative as the underlying platform, you can move your workloads freely across platforms, while significantly reducing the switching costs.
