Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a subordinate of Amazon.com that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms to individuals, companies and governments, on a paid subscription basis. The technology allows members to have at their bestowal a virtual clump of computers, available all the time, through the Internet.

Cloud computing provides delivery of compute power, database storage, applications, and other IT resources through a cloud services platform via the internet with pay-as-you-go pricing.

The version of AWS of virtual computers imitate most of the attributes of a real computer including hardware, a choice of operating systems, networking, and pre-loaded application software. Each AWS system also emulates its console I/O, allowing AWS members to connect to their AWS system using a browser.

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) provides virtual servers called instances for compute capacity (complex measurement of the maximum amount of data that can be transferred between network locations). The EC2 service offers a chunk of instance types with varying capacities and sizes, custom-made to specific applications.

There are various tools and services in AWS designed to help users migrate applications, databases, servers and data onto its public cloud. The AWS Migration Hub provides a location to monitor and manage migrations from on-premises to the cloud.

There are various technology vendors with whom Amazon is involved with as partners who help in the hybrid cloud deployment. The Amazon API Gateway enables a development team to create, manage and monitor custom APIs that let applications access data or functionality from the back-end. API Gateway manages thousands of congruent API calls at once.

There are several automation tools provided by AWS. An admin can automate infrastructure provisioning via AWS CloudFormation templates, and also use AWS OpsWorks and Chef to automate infrastructure and system configurations.

The AWS Mobile Hub offers a collection of tools and services for mobile app developers, including the AWS Mobile SDK.

If we look at the cost or the expenditure a company can incur then AWS might be slightly expensive compared to other services. If you are very clear about your requirements, you can always do a comparison and see what is the best option. If you are not clear, stick with the platform with most options available.
