Importance of the functionality 


With multiple suggestions of end-users, the feature Sending emails as an attachment is introduced with which you can reduce the efforts like attaching mail copies or forwarding multiple mails as a reference to a single email or topic in a mail. 


Sending emails as attachments will save a lot of time and effort for end-users. Also, you can simply write a summary email message and attach the supporting emails rather than manually download the emails and attach those in email.



Usability for users and to get started


Admins do not need to take any action for this feature as it’s solely developed for end-users. Once this feature is available, end-users will be able to use it from the option in three-dot More menu with an option "Forward as attachment".


Working and When you send emails as an attachment:

You can attach multiple emails as per your need.

Also, it’s taken care of in case if the file size grows over 25 MB, it will attach through Google Drive.

Whenever you click on an attached email, it will open in a new window.

It will show a security banner at the top of an attached email sent or received.



Forward an email as an attachment

  1. Log on to Gmail.

  2. Select the emails that you want.

  3. Click More Moreand then Forward as attachment.

  4. In the “To” field, add recipients. Also you can add recipients in the “Cc” and “Bcc” fields.

  5. Add a subject.

  6. Write your message.

  7. At the bottom, click Send.


To add the emails in a new mail thread, drag and drop them into the draft window.


Note: You can also select the messages and drag and drop the emails into the body of your message.

 

Reply with an attached email

  1. Log on to Gmail.

  2. Open the email > click Reply. 

  3. Click the Pop out icon Open in new (pop out) at the top right of the email.

  4. Select the emails from your inbox which you want to attach. 

  5. Drag the email into your message. 

  6. At the bottom, click Send.



An alternative way to add the emails in a new thread is to select the emails and then from the overflow (three-dot) menu select “Forward as attachment”.




You can compose and reply to an existing thread from the pop-out compose window,  then drag and drop emails to it. 



More details to send the emails as an attachment: 

  1. The attached email becomes a .eml file.

  2. You can attach multiple emails as per your need.

  3. Once you click on .eml email attachment file, it will open in a new window.


Details of Availability  


It will be available to all G Suite editions and ON by default for all users.
