Solve Math Equations Easily with Google’s Smart Compose

Introduction

For years, users have written contents and replied to comments faster and more easily using Smart Compose in Google Docs, Slides, Sheets. Now Google is excited to announce a new feature that extends the power of Smart Compose to help us solve simple math equations.

About typing a math equation that ends with “=” into our document, presentation, spreadsheet comments, or drawing, solutions will appear as grey text suggestions. This new seamless mathematical experience will enhance work performance and accuracy when solving math equations across Workspace.

 How to Use the Feature:

Google's latest update activates a new feature by default within Google Workspace documents. Users who wish to manage this feature can easily adjust settings by following these steps:

1.Accessing Settings:

• Open any Google Workspace document.
• Navigate to the “Tools” tab.

2.Disabling Smart Compose Suggestions:

• Click on “Tools” and select “Preferences.”
• Uncheck the “Show Smart Compose suggestions” box.

Using the Mathematical Equation Feature:

Once activated, users can effortlessly utilize mathematical functions within their documents by following these simple steps:

1.Inserting Equations:

• Type your mathematical equation starting with the equal (=) sign, e.g., “=10+5/2”.

2.Smart Compose Integration:

• As soon as you input the equation, Smart Compose will automatically detect it and display the solution in grey.

3.Choosing Action:

• Use the tab key to insert the suggested solution, or press the spacebar to disregard it.

This feature enhances productivity by providing real-time mathematical solutions directly within your documents.

User Experience

Once Smart Compose identifies a math equation and proposes a solution, users will view the suggestion in a grayed-out format. To incorporate the solution into the document, users can effortlessly press the tab key. Alternatively, they can dismiss the suggestion by pressing the spacebar.
