Google Meet Updates

Now we can join a meeting in one click, we don’t need to go first to meet in the greenroom. Once we are in the meeting, we can add others or we can copy the joining information to share.

Google is changing the choices for a far better experience when Google Workspace users join or start a meeting from meet.google.com.

The following options can be found after clicking “New meeting” button:

  1. Create a meeting for later: Need to Generate joining information for a new meeting. Then you can save this information to use later.
  2. Start an instant meeting: Now you can join a meeting in one click, You don’t need to go first to the Meet greenroom. Once you are in the meeting, you will be able to add others or you can copy the joining information to share. Also note that your camera and microphone will be automatically on if you select this option. You can turn them off once you get into the meeting.
  3. Schedule in Google Calendar: You need to open a new tab then go to calendar to create an event with Meet conferencing details automatically populated.
  4. Admin: No admin will be available in this feature.
  5. End users: End user facility will not be available in this feature.

Who can join in this meeting?

  • Google workspace users :- 

People within the organisation who are signed into the Google Workspace account.

People outside the organisation who are added to the calendar and have a Google account. 

People outside the organisation who have been invited by the participant during the meeting.

  • Personal Account users:- 

Anyone who has Google account can start or join the meeting

Anyone who has a Google Account who receives an in-call invite from the meeting organizer.

Who can request to join the video meeting?

  1. People who are added in the calendar event
  2. Users who are not signed into Google accounts will have to be admitted to meetings created by Google Workspace users. 
  3. Users who aren't signed into Google accounts will need to sign into their Google account to participate in meetings organized by personal Google account users.

Availability

  • This update is going to be available to Google Workspace Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus, G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, and Nonprofits customers. This will be also available to users with personal Google Accounts.
  • Workspace Essentials customers will not be able to see the “Schedule in Google Calendar” option, but they will have the other two options available.
