Microsoft Sway is a presentation software and member of the Microsoft Office family of products. It permits users with Microsoft Account to combine text content and media to create a presentable website.

Quick Start with Sway:

  • It creates interactive online format content by compiling text, image, video and other content.
  • Choose color schemes and designer created layouts, or let Sway suggest design elements that match your content.
  • Search and import relevant content from other sources.
  • Share your completed Sways on the web.

Sign In:

  1. Go to sway.office.com
  2. On the top menu bar Select Sign in and sign in with your Microsoft account or work or school account for Microsoft 365.

Note: Sway is free to use with a Microsoft account (Hotmail, Live, or Outlook.com). You can create more elegant Sways with more content when you have a Sway subscription of a Microsoft 365.

Connect with Microsoft 365 for business:

Using the app launcher, you can connect to the Sway home page. If you are already working online within your organization’s Microsoft 365 environment

  1. Select the app launcher. The app launcher icon is at the top left of the browser window.
  2. Select Sway from the Apps list. Select All apps, If you do not see Sway.

Note: The Sway app is available for Windows 10 devices. For your Windows 10 device, you can find the free Sway app.

Create in Sway:

You can create a Sway, from content in an existing file, or from a topic.

  1. Select Get started.
  2. Select one of the following: on the Welcome to Sway page.
  • Create New - to start from scratch.
  • Start from a topic - To use Sway provided base content for you, enter your topic name in the Enter a topic box, and select Create outline.
  • Start from a document - To import content from an existing file, browse and select the file, and then select Open.

Get to know the Storyline:

The Storyline gives you an option to type, insert, edit, and format the content that tells your story. Here are some Storyline basics:

  • You can arrange the Content in sequential order by adding “cards.”
  • Each card holds the type of content you want - such as text, images, videos, and even official documents.
  • You can rearrange the cards at any time to achieve your requirements.

Give your Sway a title:

  1. Choose the Title your Sway placeholder text shown in the first card on the Storyline.
  2. Type a meaningful but short description of what your Sway is all about.

Add content in Sway:

  1. Select the plus(+) icon at the bottom of the card you want to add content after.
  2. Select text, image, video, or other content types.

Find content to add to your Sway: 

The creator can search for content on Sway and add additional content to your Sway, like an image that is stored on your computer or mobile device. You can search on web using Sway for relevant content, such as videos, and add it to your Sway.

  1. Select Insert on the menu bar.
  2. Select the content source you want to search from the content source menu
  3. Type any keyword or phrase into the Search sources box.
  4. Select Search.

Design and share in Sway:

  1. Select Styles. In the Design tab on the menu bar.
  2. Select the theme you want.
  3. Click on Styles pane and then select Customize to adjust a particular part of the applied theme, like color, font choices, and the emphasis of animation.

Change the layout:

  1. Select the Design tab on the menu bar.
  2. Select Styles panen to choose how your content should scroll vertically, scroll horizontally, or appear like a presentation.

Preview your Sway:

You can preview your Sway, to see how it will appear to others when you share it.

  • On the Design tab, you can preview your in progress work at any time.
  • Select Play on the top menu bar to fully trial your Sway (including any options that you’ve added).

Share your Sway:

You can share your finished Sway with your family, friends, classmates, and coworkers and they can see your creations on the web browsers without signing up, signing in, or downloading anything.

  1. Select Share on the top menu bar.
  2. Select an option for sharing your Sway.

Note: You can change the privacy settings in any Sway whenever you want more control over what you share.
