Now Device Management in G Suite Comes with Basic Coverage to Desktop Computers

As an administrator, now you can see when a user signs in to their managed account on a laptop or desktop device. Earlier device management was used for monitoring Mobile devices only. Now you can also see some details about the computer, including the management type, device type, model, and operating system (OS). All you need to do is turn on the endpoint access from Admin Console and register the devices through the endpoint management system.

This is supported on devices running Chrome OS, Apple Mac, Linux, and Microsoft Windows.

Describing 3 new management types :

Fundamental Management -- Being an Admin now you can see when a user is signing in to the devices and the device specifications. If needed, being an admin you may remotely sign out a user from a computer. As it was before, similar to wiping out a device.

Endpoint Verification -- Here, by registering users through endpoint verification you can put a check on users from using your corporate data.

Drive File Stream -- Admin can even check and block the users from using Drive File Stream from untrusted devices to fetch your corporate data.

Importance of these 3 new management types :

  • Get a comparative clearer picture of all the devices that are accessing corporate data.

  • Use more defined data to analyze device access in the organization through reports, admin audit and the security center. For example, OS update notifications can be monitored by admin.

  • Take remedial action to remotely sign out a user when a device is lost, stolen, or compromised.

Summary :

Google as recognised for its best security aspects is becoming more comprehensive and providing G-suite administrators more power to organise their corporate boundaries. Device management is proven as one of them with its extended features.
